Few regions in the Mediterranean offer such a variety of beaches as the Municipality of Monemvasia. Over 50 of them are easily accessible by road; others are small, hidden-away coves demanding to be discovered by the more adventurous.

Whether sand or pebble, busy or isolated, all have crystal clean waters, and many have been awarded Blue Flags, an indication of a high standard of maintenance.

There is a choice between the east coast, on the Myrtoon Sea, or the west coast on the Gulf of Laconia. Or head for land’s end at legendary Cape Maleas and the beaches of Vatika.

Directions are given to every beach as well as suggestions as to which are best when strong winds are blowing.

‘Drymiskos’ beach

A small (just 30 meters long) pebbly strand.

A paradise for the few, accessible only foot or four-wheel drive along a 2 kilometer unsurfaced road.

About 5 kilometers along the road from Haraka to Kyparissi, turn right and follow the dirt road to the beach.

Caution – only suitable for vehicles with four-wheel drive.

‘Aghia Kyriaki’ beach

White pebbles cover the shore; the water is warm and clear.

Sheltered from most winds, it is the right place to be in August when meltemi winds are blowing.
