Asopos and Molai
Molai and Asopos, the westernmost areas of the Municipality of Monemvasia towards the head of the Gulf of Laconia, have a long history whose origins are lost in time. Today they are prosperous farming areas where low impact tourism has been making gradual inroads.
The town of Molai is the region’s administrative and commercial hub. Of interest is the impressive and easily accessible Larnaka Gorge. The seaside villages of Elia, Plytra, Demonia and Archangelos are ideal for family holidays. In fact the entire area boasts some of the best beaches in Laconia.
The most interesting archaeological sites are the submerged town of Plytra and the hill of Palaiokastro.
The region’s myths and legends are also fascinating.
