An interesting and different approach to Monemvasia that circles the base of the rocky outcrop on which the fortress stands. The route begins behind the hotel and restaurant just after the bridge that leads to the fortress from the mainland, in a clockwise direction (heading first to the north). The path, which lies between the sea on the left and the cliff looming above on the right, passes an old water reservoir to a stone lighthouse.
A few metres further on (a total 1,850 m from the start) are the walls of the fortress. This route provides a truly comprehensive impression of Monemvasia’s historic landscape.
